Launching the 2023-24 Visioning Process Report: Annunciating a Community Cultural Platform with Holistic Preservation

The Friends of the Tanner House and the Center for the Preservation of Civil Rights Sites (CPCRS) at the University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design worked collaboratively from June 2023 - August 2024 to support local arts and cultural programming in North Philadelphia to inform a preservation philosophy and design approach for the revitalization of the Tanner House. Witness and learn from the intertwined engagement of the Artist Partnership Series, Community Collaboration Series, and Design & Preservation Series. And we hope many of you will join the journey with us to bring the rich responses of the “For Love to Thrive” Survey alive in the neighborhood!

We’re thankful for the presence and endorsement of many Tanner Family descendants in our ongoing effort. This report of our year-long activities features a special extended Foreword from Dr. Rae Alexander-Minter, daughter of Sadie T.M. and Judge Raymond Pace Alexander. It is dedicated to the memory of respected art collector Lewis Tanner Moore (1954 - 2024) whom on occasion proudly shared the promise he cherished of the Friends of the Tanner House organizing to showcase the Tanner Family’s expansive legacy in Philadelphia and beyond.
