Friends of the Tanner House Statement on Lewis Tanner Moore’s Transition
Rest in Power Lewis Tanner Moore.
In getting to know Lewis, his family, and his legacy as a heralded artistic curator and critic, we honor Lewis Tanner Moore as remarkably unparalleled in his serious, caring, and intentional artistic eye, even as it became evident to us in getting to know Judy, Leslie, and Lewis further that this creative genius could only be derived from being fully aware of the convivial, often humorous, and always sincere art of what it requires to make a life worth living.
Through elevating Lewis’s inspired, creative contributions felt through his family, friends, and the many artists he supported, all of us will remain better for having witnessed his bold and enduring vision.
Within a revitalized Tanner House, we look forward to continuing to invent opportunities to remind people of his life’s multidimensional labor within art and beyond, uplifting the incredible community of mostly Black artists that through Lewis’s words and deeds he ignited into striving to achieve their self-determined purpose.
Since we first made acquiantance, Lewis Tanner Moore remained supportive of our efforts to uplift the expansive Tanner’s family many accomplishments and pursuits across our identified spheres of Black social life (faith, family, freedom, arts, health, and education). We are entirely grateful to his many longtime friends and collaborators that we know will help us in this effort to live up to his exceptional, bountiful presence for amplifying the artist’s pursuit of excellence.
