The Rhoden Arts Center is located in the spacious, contemporary Samuel M.V. Hamilton Building which sits directly across from the Pennsylvania Convention Center

Hosted at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts where Henry Ossawa Tanner studied from 1879 to 1885.

The current visioning process for rehabilitating the Henry Ossawa Tanner House leverages a culturally responsive interpretive framework that takes inspiration from the distinguished legacy of the Tanner Family in the arts, education, and civic engagement toward historic reuse opportunities that emphasize contemporary community movements within and across these sectors. The Friends believe in nurturing Black heritage in neighborhoods to support community economic development strategies that reject displacement, dispossession, and erasure. We uplift possibilities for the Tanner House that strive to be in right relationship with the growth, development, and maintenance of the rich Black cultural life of North Philadelphia.
